Snow Day!

The day after Christmas the snow started falling. And it just kept coming! Mom and Gerry got out on their train and my Dad arrived just in time, whew! We all stayed warm and cozy inside by the fire while the snow fell outside. By evening the wind really picked up and it was a white-out out there for awhile. A blizzard! The next morning we had to dig out the cars (and by we I mean Andrew, Derek and my Dad ;) ) Thank goodness we had visitors here to help! I think we ended up getting about 2 feet. It's the most snow I've seen in a really long time!

Best way to slow down a three year old? Send him out into waist deep snow!

The boys.

The big dig.

Although I'm sure the shoveling was a big pain, I was really excited that we got to have at least one major snow before we left for Tokyo. We certainly won't see anything like this over there!

Leyla enjoying the fire from her new chair that Santa brought for her!

Santa brought Connor the red guitar that he asked for. Major hit. You should hear him rock his ABC's with his awesome whammy bar solo.

Playing in his Toy Story tent from Aunt Kelly and Uncle Massi.

Helping Leyla with her tummy time ;)

Leyla "drawing" with a new toy of Connor's.

My Dad makes the coolest shirts for Connor. This one is no exception!!

Connor also got a digital camera- it takes real pictures! Got this idea from Melanie, and it was a huge hit! Thanks M!

C taking a picture.

Never have I ever seen Connor become downright obsessed with someone the way he was with Derek. He followed him around everywhere. Like standing pressed up against the door when Derek was inside going to the bathroom or sitting on the toilet to wait for him while Derek took a shower. Derek was a great sport about it and I think he really had fun too ;)

Just before Uncle D had to say goodbye. Connor was devastated when he left!

Thank you to my Mom, Gerry, Dad and Derek for making the trek up to CT to spend the holidays with us! And thank you to everyone for the wonderful gifts!

Christmas Eve/Connor's Birthday

Connor had a really wonderful birthday! He spent most of the day enjoying time with Grandma, Ba and his Uncle Derek (who he is quite literally obsessed with). In the evening we went to Christmas Eve mass. Even though we arrived 30+ minutes early, it was already standing room only. No complaints from me, as we got to stand right behind my (not-so-secret) boyfriend, Harry Connick Jr! He lives in our town and this is our second encounter with him (the first is another story). It was all I could do not to whip out my iphone for a picture during the sharing of peace ;) Then back home (Harry declined to join us) we had a wonderful birthday dinner and cake for Connor and opened presents. Some pics from the day:

Another Santa Baby! Thanks Stacy for my cute outfit!

Can you guess who's naughty and who's nice around here? I only joke, it looks like Connor is about to hit her with this but its attached to the chair and he's only holding onto it. I'm sure he's being way too loud here though and probably even shaking her chair.

Leyla in her Christmas dress for church. This was my first time putting her in tights and she looked so cute! Now if she'd only grow some of that baby thigh chunk so she will fill them out a bit. Oh how I love dressing this little lady...

Connor showing Uncle Derek the tree.

With the birthday boy and his Toy Story cake.

Baby Girl, totally wiped out from the days' festivities!

Setting out cookies and milk for Santa! Connor also sprinkled some reindeer food out front.

Thanks so much to everyone who sent cards or gifts or called, Connor is one very lucky little boy!!

Happy 3rd Birthday Connor!

3 years!! Holy cow! Our little boy is so grown up. Connor, this past year with you has been my favorite so far. I've loved watching your little personality really blossom. I love to hear all the amazing things you have to say (you never stop talking!) You are basically the narrator of our days. You're smart and funny and incredibly sweet. You're such a happy little boy and so full of life. You make us proud every day.

A few more things about you and your third year:
You won't let your Dad or I leave the house without giving you "just one more big hug and kiss" and telling us you love us.
People like having you around. You're sweet (I know I've already said this- but you really are the very sweetest kid I know) and fun and kind to others.
Whether it be with big kids or little babies, you always play so nicely with others. Here you are with your two favorite Carters!

You're always very polite.
You've always been a really good sharer. Even your teachers told me this.
You love to help.

You're almost incapable of walking past anything of height and not climbing up it to jump off (and you always land it)!

Your best friends this year were EJ, Sam, Cole and Brendan.
Playgrounds are your favorite place to be.
You love your cars, your trains, firetrucks, all things Toy Story, jig saw puzzles, painting, helping Mommy and Daddy with anything and everything, running, jumping/flying, being chased, and of course your beloved Puppy.

Your smile is totally infectious.
You really love your baby sister. You always need to know where she is and get excited when she smiles at you.

You really loved going to school this year.

You moved on from Raffi and Laurie Berkner long ago and now your favorite singers are Brad Paisley, Journey and Glee.
You love to dance, especially to mimic the moves seen on your favorite show The Freshbeat Band. Not sure if this is a good thing.
You know when you've done something you're not supposed to and will often put yourself in time out until you've felt you're "ready to be a good boy again" (your words). Your Dad and I look at each and wonder if we're supposed to be doing something more or just continue to let you handle it? It's been working so far.
You're really sensitive, sometimes too much.
We can't keep your hair under control and have given up.
You can count in English, Spanish and Japanese. People really get a kick out of this.
You put your first pairing of words together at on March 22 of this year (at 27 months old- this felt really late to us and I had been so worried about it). I remember the date because it was Daddy's birthday and you said "more cake." Two days later in the car you told me "no ting (sing) Mommy please!" Even though it was an insult to my singing skills (totally understandable), I was so excited to hear you say your first real sentence after waiting so long to hear you speak. So that's why things like this make me so proud. This is one of your favorite books to "read" to me at night (Polar Bear, Polar Bear). Note: You need to know the book to be able to understand what he's reading on that last page (lots of really big words!) He can't pronounce them all perfectly but still, it makes my heart smile!

For your birthday this year we took you to Disney World and you had a blast (lots of pictures to come!!) We had the best time watching you have so much fun.

We can't believe you used to be this little:

And now you're so big.
We could do without the whining you've started up lately and wish you'd stay in your seat better at dinner but we'll work on that in the new year ;)
Overall, you're the best little boy we know and we're so glad you're ours. Can't wait to see what the next year holds for you- we're on to our next big adventure together once again! Happy 3rd Birthday little boy!
Love, Mom and Dad

Disneyworld here we come!

I admit. Right now I am totally and completely overwhelmed. Having an infant that you're nursing every 3 hours is (so fun!) but tough. Having a toddler is (so fun!) but tough. Getting everything together for the holidays (we're hosting Christmas!) is (so fun!) but tough. Packing/sorting/planning/organizing your life and home to move your family to the other side of the world is (IN NO WAY FUN AT ALL) and really tough. All together at once? It's enough to make me want to pour tequila on my morning cheerios. What to do? Throw my hands up and go to Disneyworld!!!!! Some may say it's crazy (and it is) to try and work in a trip like this right now with all we have going on at the moment. But I told Melanie we'd come visit in 2010 and I'm a keeper of my word ;) Not to mention the added perk of getting to see Disneyworld with two of Disney's very own, how lucky are we????!!! We couldn't be more excited and I think its just what we need right now.

So tomorrow we're going to Disneyworld!!!!!!!!

Connor has been asking on an almost daily basis when we're going to the castle to visit his friends Carter, Emmy, Woody and Buzz Lightyear (he thinks Carter lives in a castle with all of them). Ha!

Christmas Reindeer Cookies

Tomorrow we have a holiday party/cookie exchange at Connor's school (how many times can I say how much I love Connor's school???) So this afternoon Connor and I will be holed up in the kitchen making Christmas Reindeer cookies. A perfect activity since its a rainy nasty day outside today. Connor really loved making them last year too. Sharing the recipe (they couldn't possibly be easier!) for my Mom friends.

What You Need

1 roll of pre-made sugar cookie dough
small pretzel rings
M & Ms
1 bell shaped cookie cutter
flour
baking sheet

What You Do

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Lightly flour the table, then roll the dough out to 1/4 inch thickness. Using the bell cookie cutter, cut out 12 bell cookies - this will vary depending on how thick you roll out the cookies (or if you don't have a cookie cutter just shape them by hand.) Lay the cookies, all the same way with bell facing you, onto the cookie sheet. Now, turn the cookie sheet around so that the bells are upside down. This is your reindeer face. Place a red M&M in his nose and one pretzel on each side of his head for the ears. (See photo)

Bake for 10 minutes or until very lightly browned around edges. Remove from oven and let cool on the baking sheet for 1-2 minutes. Remove to a cooling rack to finish cooling.

Yummmmmmmmmmmm
