Cheeeeeeeese!

Connor has been rocking a new, mega-watt smile lately. It's just a fantastic huge ear to ear grin. Who knows if he's just showing off his new teeth (he has 6 now!) or is just super pumped to be living on US soil- but its about the best darn thing I've ever seen!

I took this picture of us myself:

Ballay/Burnham Wedding!

We were in Philly this past weekend for Annie and John's wedding. It was a BLAST and Annie was simply stunning- not to mention the coolest, calmest bride there ever was. Annie and I go way back. We met at UMD and she and I were roommates together in NYC. She was there the day I met Andrew (the three of us were summer interns at KPMG) and I was with her the night she met John a couple years later. She and John are one of our very best couple friends, and Andrew and I were both in the wedding (I was a bridesmaid, Andrew was a reader). When I wasn't busting my awesome moves on the dance floor I spent time catching up with so many of my girlfriends that I hadn't seen in WAY too long. So much fun!

Me and the bride!

With the exception of Tracey and I (representing NY), all of us girls live in different states right now: NY, NJ, MD, TX, NC. Gotta love weddings to bring us all together!

I heart these girls!!

Waiting for the bus at the end of the night.

We can't wait for the Burnhams to get home from their honeymoon so we can continue the celebration!

Guess who's walking?!

Yep- Connor Eich. He looks like a drunken sailor making his way across the floor and he's still a bit unsteady but he's definitely walking now! I'm so proud of him!! I think he's pretty proud of himself too because whenever he gets where he's going or falls down he starts clapping for himself. Too funny!

I'm holding my cell phone in my hand to try to get him to walk to me here.

Got it!

It's mine now Mom!

I love this puppy sweater he's wearing, it was a gift from his Great Grandma Alice!! Thanks Grandma A!

We're here!

Our flight just could not have gone better, we were so lucky. The flight ended up taking off at 7:00pm, Connor 's bedtime. Would you believe that he fell asleep during take off?! We had him in his car seat, in a seat in between Andrew and I. We draped a blanket over the car seat to block the light and he slept there like that for over 9 hours! We were so amazed. We were able to have dinner and drinks on the plane, Andrew watched a movie and I got some decent sleep. We were not expecting this- and couldn't have been happier! When he finally woke up we played with him on the floor in front of our seats for an hour or two and then he fell back asleep until we landed. Unbelievable!

Of course we've been paying for our good luck ever since- Connor's jet lag has just been awful to deal with. The first two nights that we were here he didn't fall asleep until 5am, even after being kept awake by us all day. I can't blame the kid, 5am is 7pm Tokyo time (his bedtime)- its just hard for the little guy's internal clock to adjust I guess. So we've been slowly dialing back his bedtime by an hour each night. Last night he fell asleep at 8 and slept the whole night through, tonight we'll try for 7:00. I've just been telling myself that this is the LAST time we'll ever have to deal with this nonsense- and besides, I'm so freaking excited to be home that I don't even mind that much!!

Here's a few pictures I took on our last day in Tokyo:

One last picture of our home, Izumi Garden.

Connor and I waving "bye bye" to Tokyo Tower.

This is how much crap we took with us to the airport. If you are ever frustrated by traveling, think us and what we did. The amount of stuff we took with us was insane. Our baggage consisted of: 2 huge rubber containers, 2 huge moving boxes, 2 large suitcases, 2 medium suitcases, Connor's overnight bag, my diaper bag, Andrew's briefcase, a car seat, a stroller, and Connor!! I still don't understand how we did it, but I do know that all of the credit goes to Andrew.

Here's Connor helping to push the cart that Andrew had just loaded. It really cracked me up the way Connor really did try to help out. If I was vacuuming, he would push the vacuum around the room. If I was packing a suitcase he'd start throwing stuff inside (as opposed to taking stuff back out like he did before). At one point he even climbed in the suitcase and laid down!

We're so happy with our temporary apt. in NYC. There is literally only one building that separates our building from Annie and John's- we've already seen them multiple times since being home- so fun! There's a good amount of space in here too- plenty of room for Connor to play. Although I don't think we'll be spending too much time in the apartment- there's a whole new city out there to explore!

Sayonara Tokyo!

And we're off!

The apartment is completely empty and we have our move out inspection this morning. Then we're off to the airport. Our flight leaves at 6:30pm (Friday). We've taken two night flights like this with Connor before- one went famously, the other totally backfired. So we have a 50/50 chance of this working out for us. Connor woke up extra early this morning (I think he knows something big is happening) and seems to have TONS of energy today... yikes. I'm just trying to channel positive thoughts. We land in NYC around 5:00pm on Friday night (yes- because of the 14 hour time difference we are technically landing before we take off- one of the perks of living in the future and flying back to the past- soon to be our present!).

Goodbye dear Tokyo... its been real! United States of Awesomeness here we come!

The Karate Kid

For Halloween Connor dressed as the Karate Kid. I tried to think of something that would be great for an American kid living in Japan and this is what I came up with (for the Halloween that Connor's costume gets to be MY decision :) ). I even found a patch with both American and Japanese flags under the word "Karate"- so perfect. I felt like such a Mom sewing the patches on his uniform- isn't that such a Mom thing to do?! On Friday night Connor's trick or treating really just consisted of visiting the girls down at the front desk of our building (who really love Connor). The real fun came on Saturday, when Connor attended the 1st Birthday party of his best bud Carter, THE social butterfly of Tokyo! The party was a Halloween "Boo Bash" theme and it was just really, really fun. Melanie and Jason (Carter's parents) were such amazing hosts and it was so cute to see all the kids dressed up in their costumes!
Andrew came home from work in time to see Connor in his costume!

You can see how excited the girls were to see Connor.

Thanks for the goods ladies!

Connor and Sloan the Pumpkin.

Good shot of the patch.

Getting a cake here is always a huge, difficult ordeal. The cake was awesome Melanie!!

The birthday boy and all of his friends!!

Happy Birthday Carter Smith! Your parents throw a good party!!
