So Thankful

Happy Thanksgiving! We'll be heading to MI to celebrate with the extended Eich family. It's always super fun when the whole gang gets together there. And Connor adores his cousins so its always fun to see them playing together. Can't wait for everyone to meet Leyla too.

It's been a big year for us- buying our first home, the transition to the suburbs, turning 30, adding a perfect baby girl to our little family, celebrating 5 years of marriage... there is much to be thankful for right now. Nothing fancy because I'm tired but here's a few things off the top of my head that I'm pretty darn thankful for right now...

The big:

-My beautiful babies. I feel lucky every day that they are mine.
-For Andrew.
-That Connor is such a fun, polite little boy that people enjoy being around.
-For sweet baby girls that only get up once a night to feed.
-That everyone is healthy.
-For our families who have always been so loving and so supportive of everything we do.
-For my awesome girlfriends, near and far.
-For the new friends I've made here in New Canaan.
-For the food on our table, roof over our head, heat in the winter time.
-That Andrew has a good, (stable?) job.
-A job that allows me to stay at home every day with said beautiful babies.
-For Connor's rockin' speech. He was a (very) late talker. I spent a long time worrying. And now he never stops talking (and almost perfectly). And it will always be music to my ears.
-For the special moments my kids have gotten to have with their Great Grandparents.
-For being an American.
-For our military that keeps us safe.
-For having nice neighbors.
-For everyone that reads this blog.

And the not so big:
-For the Starbucks drive thru 2 miles from my house.
-That for whatever reason, pacifiers land facing up when dropped.
-For Spanx.
-For the wine I'm drinking right now (thanks Aunt Joanne!)
-For my currently most prized possions: my camera, my triple load washing machine, my Nespresso machine and my breastpump (how obvious is it that I'm in the throes of raising small children?)

My people, of which I am the most thankful.

Happy Turkey Day!

Siblings

I have several long posts in queue, just too little time :( So a short one will have to do today.

People tell me how much they think Leyla looks like Connor but I don't totally see it. They have different eyes, noses, chins, ears, even skin tones. The one thing they do share is head shape but that's about all I see! But occasionally I'll see a picture of her that reminds me of Connor, like this one! Of course the clothes and chin give it away...

And now the little boy in the above picture is old enough to be taking pictures himself ;)

Happy Friday!

Hide and Seek with Connor

This picture makes me laugh. Connor loves to play hide and seek. However no matter how many times I've tried to tell him, he always tells me right where he's going to hide. He'll say "Ok Mommy now don't look! Count to ten! I going under the desk in Daddy's office. Come find me!"

Here he is behind the curtains in our bedroom. A great hiding spot if:

-he hadn't told me that's right where he was going
-he hadn't hidden there the last 10 times in a row
-he didn't start giggling like crazy when I walked in the room
-his little feet weren't poking out :)

Ha! Here's one more of him dressing up like a fireman. We do have a fireman jacket but he prefers to wear my robe as his "cape because it keeps the monsters out too."

Happy Friday! My Dad and Grandpa are coming to visit today, and Andrew returns from being in Tokyo all week. YAY!

8 Weeks Old!

My baby girl turned 8 weeks old yesterday! She continues to be nothing short of a superstar! Things she's doing now...

She continues to smile basically anytime you look at her!
Her favorite thing to look at is faces, particularly mine ;)
She loves loves loves to look at herself in the mirror. When she catches sight of herself she makes the most fun face- I tried to catch it on camera here (its not easy to hold her and take a picture of her in the mirror at the same time)

She prefers to be held over my shoulder or facing out so she can see what's going on.
Her favorite place to be is laying on my chest but I have to be careful because she'll almost always instantly fall asleep.
She's just started reaching for toys. When she's really determined to touch one she sticks her little tongue out just like Connor (still) does when he's really concentrating on something.
She loves to hear the sound of her own voice, she gets so excited.
In general, we think she's pretty darn amazing and still can't believe we are so lucky!

Another big change that's happened in the last couple weeks has been in Connor's reaction to her. Since Leyla's been here he's moved from jealousy to tolerance and now to interacting and being a protective big brother! He frequently asks to hold her (but only wants to for a few seconds!) The other night he asked if Baby Leyla (he still calls her Baby Leyla) can sleep in his bed with him because he "needs to keep his eyes on her all night." Whenever I go in to get him in the morning the second thing he always asks is where she is (the first is always what's for breakfast). Last Friday Andrew worked from home so I left Leyla here when I went to pick Connor up from school. About half way home he bursts into tears and said "Oh no Mommy we left Baby Leyla at my school! We need to go back and get her right now! She's too little to be at school all by herself!" Poor guy was so upset!

2 Month stats to come following her appt. next week. I'm already dreading her shots :(

Halloween Pictures

I finally have my computer back from being in the shop for a week- yay! We've basically doubled the hard drive size so hopefully the increased memory will keep it from overloading and freezing up on me. I take so many dang pictures, I had really overloaded the thing. Lots of new pictures and posts to come if I can get my act together.

Anyway, here's our pictures from Halloween, arguably one of the more fun days of Connor's life (his words, not mine), ha. As you know, I suffer from an affliction of not being able to pick and choose which pictures to post, so am basically posting all. Each one tells a story that I want to remember.

In the weeks leading up to Halloween Connor honestly wasn't all that into it. I'm not sure if he didn't remember last year or what. We took out his fireman costume from last year and he said he wanted to wear that again. It still fit so I figured ok! I told him he could choose what Leyla would be and right away he said she should be "a kitty cat that goes meow meow." Easy! I found a cute pj and hat set at Baby Gap (that could still be worn post Halloween) so I grabbed it up. It's actually a cheetah costume but that's ok. Connor was pleased. However with only a week to go before Halloween he became very adamant that he wanted to be a "kitty cat that goes meow meow" too. Andrew was not pleased with this choice, ha. He kept asking him if he was sure he didn't want to be a tiger, or a puma or a jaguar but no, Connor wanted to be a kitty cat. So I began my search for the most masculine kitty cat costume I could find (not easy). Most have pink ears and bellies and are most definitely made for girls. After visits to multiple Halloween stores I went to the internet and found one, which arrived just in time. Unfortunately it was really big on him, good that he was able to wear his heavy winter coat and pants underneath but the hat was way too big and he kept having to pull it down to see. He absolutely loved it though!

Here's our manly kitty cat that goes meow meow:

And our baby cheetah girl, who unfortunately never got her picture taken outside of her carseat where she spent most of the day. As always, that poor poor 2nd child ;)

We started the day off at the town's Halloween parade, a really huge event. They had a DJ, treat bags for the kids, lots of fun booths and activities, a band, etc. Connor found his BFF Cole (dressed as Spiderman) right away.

This was Connor's favorite costume of the day, he kept wanting to follow this train around. I so wish I was as creative as this kid's Mom (who constructed this) but it ain't happening.

Connor said "Check it out Mommy! It's Buzz Lightyear and Daddy Buzz Lightyear!" It always makes me laugh when he says "check it out!" I wish Andrew would be into wearing something like that to something like this but again, it ain't happening.

Time to march in the parade! And my boy, literally marched.

Mr. Hot Stuff.

We stumbled upon three ginormous St. Bernard dogs (2 black, 1 brown and white). After confirming that they were really friendly Connor went over to pet them and returned covered with dog slobber. I can only imagine what these people's house must look like? Pretty gross.

Then three little Cavalier King Charles Spaniels walked by (2 brown and white, 1 black) and stopped to talk to the three big dogs. They were like perfect opposites! For whatever reason I thought this was so funny and had to take a picture.

Connor and I (almost blocked by Daddy Buzz Lightyear's wingspan).

After a drive down to the computer store in Greenwich (the kids napped in the car) we met up with Brendan (a pirate!) and his parents for the big trickortreating event. Connor was like beside himself with excitement. He had gotten a cool sticker at the Apple store which he wanted to wear on his costume.

The scene. We were surprised how many parents dressed up too, and that they made it into their own social event as well! Many were walking around with cups of wine or thermoses. Our friends brought two thermoses of mulled hot apple cider, one spiked with rum, one not. Gotta love the burbs!

Every house on the street we hit was decorated. Several had turned their garages into mini haunted houses. One house had a table with a big jar of fake bloody eyeballs that lit up when you walked by. Brendan took one look and ran screaming from the house. Connor said "check it out Mommy, that's scary" and then went up to the homeowner dressed as Frankenstein and asked him where his candy was. That's my Connor. There is no fear where there is candy.

Walking with their Dads.

They literally sprinted to every house, sometimes holding hands, and always giggling like little crazy people.

And the little miss, still in her carseat. I heard Andrew call her "Princess Angel-face" last night (so something my Mom would make up). That about sums her up though!

Happy Halloween!
