4th of July Visit with the Eichs!

Catching up on some long overdue posts now! 4th of July weekend Andrew's parents came to visit. We had such a wonderful time with them and they helped us with several projects around the house of which we are SO THANKFUL! One huge one was the landscaping out front. The project- removing this awful pachysandra (ground cover) which was ugly, terribly uneven, and threatening to take over the whole front yard.
The "before" picture of our front walkway:
Connor really loved being Granddad's helper! Dad worked so hard out there, and it was really hot! Again, thank you so very much!!
Andrew laying down the sod on either side of the walkway. We found out why the pachysandra was so wide on the right side- it was hiding a stump. Eventually we'll have that ground out of there.
I still need to take a picture of the finished product now that the grass has evened out and the flowers have grown in a bit- it really looks awesome. Only issue- there are others who think its awesome too. Our deer friends (not to be mistaken with our dear friends, because they most certainly are not) have taken out a bunch of the flowers. War has been declared. I once caught one peering in my living room window. Here they are in the front bed (which Dad also weeded and pulled pachysandra out of while he was here). Andrew throws rocks at the deer whenever he sees them. Can you see the two baby deer on the left?
On Friday night of the Eichs' visit, Mom and I took Connor to the circus in New Canaan. Now I use the term circus quite loosely here. It was really just a big tent in the middle school parking lot. I was hoping for a clown, some juggling, maybe a couple of animals. But this was really just a giant freak show. I now fully understand the term "carney freak." I can't even talk about it, too traumatic. Connor enjoyed it (I think). The highlights- hoola hooping in the ring before things kicked off and a pony ride during intermission. I will say, that the experience made for a lot of laughs and stories afterwards!
On the morning of the 4th we all went out to lunch. While walking by, Connor wanted to stop at the fire station to have his picture taken in front of a truck while wearing his 4th of July shirt! I have no idea where he gets it from ;)
He wanted to pose in front of multiple trucks, ha.
On July 4th the town of New Canaan puts on a spectacular fireworks show at Waveny park. It really was like nothing I'd ever seen before! Everyone brought picnic dinners, drinks, there were multiple bounce houses set up for the kids, food stalls, a band, etc. The town really goes all out! Connor thought the fireworks were awesome, and he loved telling me what he thought they each looked like. "Look Mommy! That one looks like Buzz Lightyear!" "And that one looks like a giant Woody!" ;)
Connor in his July 4th finest. The Eichs were nice enough to stay home with Leyla since it was past her bedtime and we thought the fireworks might scare her.
The boys.
We were such novices, we just brought a towel for ourselves to sit on, dinner, water and two beers. We had to laugh when the people next to us pulled out chairs, a coffee table and a full bar. Next time we'll know ;)
Lastly, here's a video taken that weekend. Mom and I were in the living room with Leyla, who was still newly walking and was trying to master waving hello and walking at the same time!

Happy (very belated!) 4th of July, still one of my favorite holidays of the year!

Rehoboth Beach Iphone Pics

Ready for the beach!
Connor on the carousel at Funland!
I emailed the above picture to my Dad and he sent me this one of me on the same carousel when I was Connor's age!! Have I mentioned before that I have the best Dad?
Connor really wanted Andrew to ride this with him. It was a ridiculously tight squeeze. Have I mentioned that Connor has the best Dad too??
I know somewhere there's a picture of me riding on these boats too.
Standard carseat sleeping picture on the way home!

Rehoboth Beach, DE

This past weekend we went to Rehoboth Beach, DE with Ashley, Jason, baby Claire, Jackie, Alan and baby Natalie. It was a full house with lots of babies and oh so fun! The kids especially had a blast- we hit the beach, the boardwalk, Funland to ride the rides, the arcade to play skee ball (a lot- Connor is rather obsessed with the game), Grotto Pizza (my fave!), a visit from Aunt Stacy, Arena's, and the playground. And my personal favorite- on Saturday night after putting all kids and babies to bed we had a crab feast! Bunch of pics:

We played a lot of paddle ball with Connor.
The little miss in her sunhat.
How sweet is that little face?
Leyla hitting the beach. This was just before she ate sand and then rubbed into her eyes like crazy.
Bald Beauty.
Sand in mouth and eye but we're still having fun! Peace out people!
Kiddies playing.
I was really proud of Andrew. The first (and last!) time he picked crabs with me he was a total freaking pansy-a$$ (and those are not tolerated during crab feasts- hence why he hasn't picked crabs with me since). Not only did he more than redeem himself this time around, he loved it! I love Ash's face here. She takes this as seriously as If do.
Leyla pretending she's a little baby again in Natalie's bouncy seat.
Connor finds a someone to play with everywhere we go! Here he is with his new friend Ben, who he played with for a long time.
Huge rainbow seen from our balcony.
Baby Natalie!
Leyla showing Natalie how the toys on her bouncy seat work.
Jackie's face perfectly shows how cold the water was!
Good times!

Leyla's New Kicks

Leyla's pretty much worn out her 6-12 month old Robeez (her baby shoes with a thin suede sole) so I decided it was time to get her her first pair of "real" shoes at Stride Rite! I was so excited- dreaming of little glittery shoes that as the Mom of a boy I've never had a reason to buy before. Stride Rite makes baby shoes in three categories- PreWalkers, Walkers, and Off and Running. The person helping us could not get over how on the move (and fast!) Leyla was. She said we had to get her shoes from the "Off and Running" group- for maximum support, to help her with the development of her arch, etc. Well since most babies her age and size are most definitely not off and running quite like she is, Stride Rite only makes one freaking Off and Running shoe in her size (3) and they are these white "booties," (which I do believe my parents and grandparents probably wore as babies too, ha.) No offense but so boring ;) So behold, Leyla's first pair of big girl shoes:

All was not lost. Stride Rite was running a buy 1, get the second 50% off sale so I also bought the sweetest pair of mary janes with pink and purple sparkles in a larger size for the spring! I had something to exchange at Hanna Anderson so we did a little hat shopping for the fall too. Hats look sweet on my little bald baby.

Action shot of the shoes back home. See, she's so fast my pictures even blur in fast action photo mode. Ugh.

Speaking of off and running, here's Leyla on Connor's scooter. She literally pushes herself along with one foot while balancing on the scooter. It is the funniest thing to see her roll by on this. This cannot be normal for an 11 month old right? But good Lord I love those little chicken legs.

Down the Stairs

Warning- this video isn't very exciting. But it captures that my girl is quite the mover. She mastered going up the stairs long ago and recently going back down (the hard part) too!

Pool Time with Miss L

This picture makes my heart melt.

Connor was there with us too but he was too fast action to be caught in any pics :)

Connor Funny

Today we drove past our church and Connor said, "Look Mommy, there's our church where Leyla just got baptized." And I asked him if he knew what it meant to be baptized (hoping he'd touch upon the whole child of God thing). He said "Of course, it means you get your hair washed at church."
